Mobile Phones

o It is recognised that mobile phones can be intrusive and distracting in all situations and particularly in schools. In addition to the inconvenience, the debate still goes on about the possible harmful effects of the frequent use of mobile phones. Children could be particularly vulnerable in this regard. There is research available stating that there can be a correlation between mobile phones and bullying also. In the interest of Health and Safety and also being mindful of Child Protection issues the Board of Management of Gaelscoil na Dúglaise requests that pupils do not bring mobile phones to school.

Special Conditions

Special conditions apply and must be adhered to if it is deemed absolutely necessary for a child to have access to their mobile phone immediately after school.

o Mobile phones must be turned off while children are in school

o Taking photographs with camera phones is not allowed.

o If pupils have mobile phones turned on during school time their phones will be confiscated and will have to be collected by their parent from the teacher.

o Parents been made aware of the school’s policy through the school Newsletter, through our Leabhrán Eolais and it is also stated in our Code of Behaviour.

o Staff/Students have access to the school landline if urgent calls need to be made to parents

¡ Staff

¡ The use of mobile phones by staff for essential calls should be kept to the minimum and should be taken /made if possible in an open area or in an area where pupils are not present.

Roles and Responsibilities:

All staffs share in the co-ordination and implementation of this policy.

Evaluation:

This policy is monitored on an ongoing basis and amendments added as needed.

Implementation:

This policy has been in place since 26/1/11
