Football,Hurling & Camogie

There is a great enthusiasm for Gaelic football, hurling and camogie in Gaelscoil na Dúglaise and the pupils consequently achieve many awards for their efforts at our national games. We enjoy a very close relationship with the local Douglas G.A.A. Club.

Boys and girls from fourth, fifth and sixth classes attend the club on a weekly basis. They train in either the sports hall or in the Club’s playing pitches, under the wonderful guidance of the Club ‘s Eddie Murphy. Eddie attends all training sessions and helps greatly with the school teams. Panel training takes place on Friday afternoons.

Football training for girls takes place on Wednesdays with Múinteoir Méabh and Camogie takes place on Monday with parent Oliver Mc Andrew. Our caretaker Tim O Donovan joined by Múinteoirí Marc and Eamonn train our budding 3rd and 4th class hurlers on Friday afternoons.

The children take part in Comórtas Sciath na Scol’s hurling and football competitions every year. The children especially enjoy the tremendous honour of playing in Páirc Uí Rinn and Páirc Uí Chaoimh when they reach the final. The children partake in friendly inter-school blitzes on a regular basis. The school was delighted with its win in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in June 2010. The silverware looks great in the school reception area. Local Hero Eoin Cadagan spoke to the players on the day of their final . It certainly paid dividends.

The swell of pride throughout the school when Cork reaches the all Ireland Finals is palpable. Joe Deane lead a training session with the children two years ago. We were privileged to have Seán Óg Ó hAilpín visit the school – There was great excitement. The school was and looks forward to Amy O Shea's visit with Corn TG4. delighted to welcome the Sam Maguire Cup back to the school in 2010.
